I am a storyologist in every capacity.
My love for stories started very young and led me to where I am today!
1997 - My love for Dr. Seuss began. I remember excitedly walking down to the mailbox every month to get my Dr. Seuss book through a program my mom found.
Unfortunately, that particular program is discontinued according to my research. But, if your child is 0-5, make sure to sign them up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program for a free, current book every month. It’s NEVER too early to start their love for reading!
2006 - I began honors English classes. I couldn’t do math for the life of me, but my eighth English teacher noticed I was a natural at writing. She recommended me—who had never thought of college—to try honors classes in high school.
That one recommendation is why I have two degrees and a passion for stories now. Thank you, Ms. Haessler.
2014 - I became a high school English teacher in Arizona. Naturally, all my English classes became my safe space, and I wanted to create the same thing for others. At just 21, I started teaching and working with kids on how to use stories and interdisciplinary studies to help them understand the world.
2017 - I started a blog dedicated to studying reading and writing (storyology). When my husband when active duty, I had to leave teaching to raise our family. To fulfill the compulsive need to teach people stories, I started blogging.
It’s still going, and I will be transferring it to this site soon enough. Stay tuned!
2019 - I self-published my first book. I found myself coping with motherhood and mental illness with my old love for poetry. Eventually, I turned to the indie writing community on Google+ and Instagram who supported me through the self-publishing process.
You can find my poetry (about mental illness, dark feelings, and Black identify) for sale among my shelves!
2022 - I began Fulfillity Books & More as a pop-up shop in Fayetteville, NC. Though I love teaching, I find that my main love is sharing stories with others, in any capacity. I would love to keep teaching in classrooms forever; however, I would love to own my own brick and mortar even more. Who knows, maybe even offering creative writing classes behind the shelves.
I was out of the classroom for 5 years, teaching my autistic sons how to life—can you guess that they’re great readers?
I finally returned to teaching in 2023 while still maintaining my business on the weekends! The plan is to keep doing so until my family is ready for this commitment.
2024 - Open a Brick & Mortar
We are so proud to finally be able to create a permanent space for our neighbors to create, share, and enjoy stories. Modest, and “part-time” (as I still teach high school English), the community’s support to get us to this point has been phenomenal, as we are so excited to be a permanent part of Hope Mills.
A place to socialize, unwind, and make memories.
A family-friendly place with books for every age.
A place to host events that brings local storyologists together.
A community staple that creates a safe space for stories.
